Once upon a time
flying past the cloud nine
I came upon
a perfect storm
brewing in a teacup
a tempest I couldn't resist
to dive in
biting off my head in the process
unencumbering the shoulders
long tired
of holding it high
for no reason
A circus to stay
happily ever after
yet
not fall out of love
with myself
Sleeping with the enemy
to keep myself from dying
of the bliss of loneliness
even when that means
waking up the wrong side of the bed
each morning.
Ignorance is sure bliss
if you know not
you're miserable
or married
Rising hopes like
acorns in water
Judging a book by its cover
or a couple by the walls
and conditions
that define their love
Even if the walls could talk,
would they bother to stoop
low as humans
or care to hear the yawn
of the elephant
sprawled across the room?
Birds of the same feather
flock together
Apples fallen far from the tree
find a way to roll upward
defying the gravity
to keep the platitudes going
for yet another season
of hopes, of tropes
To beat the horse long dead
to go no further
than the fence of my ignorance
lest I go past the bliss
it keeps barricaded
At the end of the day,
I'm just a married one
living clichés for a life.
