Lost upon my days
I once happened upon a (strange) place
A colourful door
invited me to a corridor
the kind I had never seen before
Entering the elements
I went past tables periodic
neatly arranged by valencies
A water-filled room was next,
from brine undulating
to a puddle nondescript
Varieties of rocks awaited me next
from pebbles to mountains,
their peaks piercing roofs
Then I came upon
a room most bustling
filled with plants, trees
fruits, flowers, insects
shapes, colours nameless
crawling, creeping,
flying, some walking
Primates, vertebrates
magic of uneven spine
dispersed among inmates
Unrealised I had
by now reached
the end of this strange place
as a set of narrow steps
lead me to an attic
Squeezing myself through
I happened upon
a rather tight space
Stuffed with things
too many for its size
the tiny space looked
a hedge-apple pale
Peering closely
into its many
dark nooks and crevices
I realised I was
peeping inside
my own brain
Startled, as I turned,
to my terror,
the steps had vanished
and so had the door
The shop of life
had closed for business
