A man crossing a road
At crossroads with life-
unsure which shore or side
he belongs, if any
Dodging the speeding cars
easier to escape
than the volleys between ears
Caught between
the dilemma of being
and the clarity of nonbeing
Torn between
the futility of dying
and the unworthiness of surviving
May be a subject for someone's poem
may be will adorn a canvas in some museum
may be will make it to tomorrow's headlines
But so long as he draws breath
and waits to throw himself
at the traffic
nobody is bothered to wait
and see,
really see
that
he
even
exists.
One among the countless
that come and go unseen
fleeting across eye's periphery
A man crossing a road.
