Not one out of the countless
not a day like another
Not a sunrise or sunset
sharing a shade of its turgor
Spinning about itself
to a rhythm celestial
Swooning to the song
of cosmic silence
When did the planet
get to heave
Life into its bosom,
the grace unceasing?
From algae, blue and green
floating across some nameless brine
To the many like and unlike me
confused and clear, clearly confused
In a conundrum unending
over what to make of it -
the life without and within
girting us from all sides
Well, the end could be near
lurking behind the next door
or just across the corner
that I'll pass unaware
But life will never cease to be
for never there was or ever will be
a time when there wasn't
life on the planet unweaved
From insects to beasts
the many tigers and mammoths
may have ceased to replicate
or will ever get to roam the planet again
But to life it will only be
a change of form
a change of shape
picking up a new robe off its shelf
From a fungus to a human, from a bird to a whale
Life will continue to be
will continue to breathe
either in the gills or in the green leaves
Outliving the limited abilities
of mine
to feel its verve
to understand its wit
Outliving the stupidities/ banalities/ inaneness/ mediocrity
of my kind
to destroy the planet
me included
Life will never go extinct.
