Before Christ
or after his death
at the crucible of human kindness
and prevalent curiosity that could not take
the answers it wasn't prepared to palate
Billions have sprung from the soil
before and since
Alas, the proportion of those realising
"Who they truly were"
has shrunken faster than the ozone layer
As the mind busies itself
in finding avenues newer
each passing generation
to keep occupied and entertained
As the body sneaks past compulsions
to turn needs into necessities
when none did exist beyond
food, shelter and procreation
only more complicated
The soul, the sole wanderer
a tramp, out and lost
amid the chaos of booming economies
and melting glaciers
Trillions was perhaps not a number
for anything on the planet
until our days became scarier
than our worst nightmares
A speck among the countless twinkles
filling the firmament
Trembling with woes
that'd make the Big Bang appear
a dispensable trifle,
a superfluous expense
Unless of course,
the creator had run out of
options for
distraction and entertainment.
