If life were a song
one could croon uncared,
melodies flowing through
tones of abandon
or lack of any pitch or timbre
Rhythm and rhyme already set
and yet willing to inflect
So long as one knew the notes
to heart's content
Meaning of life
no more a matter of seeking or strife
A verse may have nothing to do with the next
A word or phrase could mean a hundred things
or just nothing
Fillers and punctuation
and all the regimentation
endured in the name of grammar or religion
could be left out
at the edge of a verse
And the best part of it would be
One could end the song anytime
without feeling lost or incomplete
or leaving a void for regrets lingering
