From an infant orphaned too soon
to a consort and cousin ever distanced
Even the matters of heart and faith
went misprisioned
in the life of this Queen
who was forced to spend much of her 'reign'
away from the throne,
held captive by fate, misprisioned.
From the marriages fruitless
to the alliances that led her to suffer through the days leading her to her peril
The end that was misprisioned.
Even the one borne of her
could not come to the rescue of Mary Stuart,
The Queen of Scotland.
From the plots on the ground
that never took off
To the letters in casket unclaimed
Served her only to have herself
further ensnared
by the destiny that was misprisioned
Only the scaffold she ascended in the end
with dignity, pride and at last, tranquil
held her footing without a quiver
"Into thy hands I commend my spirit" she uttered
even as the beheading axe misprisioned her head
And centuries past, the history remains undecided
Unable to make up her mind on the verdict
A martyr or a traitor was Mary Stuart
And the crimson on her coffin remains
forever misprisioned.
