Sauntering between epic and lyric
at times plotted, at times undecided
Acts, overtures, soliloquy and score
props, tenor tuned to bravo
Conforming at times, at times dodging
the Aristotlean plotting
Opera, drama, bass or soprano
each tragedy penned to perfection,
played to the hilt until the call of curtains
Tragedy on stage may take forms any
Faces wearing emotions fervent
and mouthing lines well-practised
Rage, rebel, battles and tirades
many a stabbings leaving scars though none
Heartbreaks, treachery, plots curved and twisted
A climax that puts all things straight
Bows, curtsies well-rehearsed
Smiles, gestures and pain oft-repeated
Until the curtains fall
and each returns
the actors and the audience
Each to their own world
that was only briefly forgotten
teeming with plots mundane and pain plain
to live unrehearsed
Back to live through all the emotions
without scenes or acts numbered
Or any applause waiting
for making it alive until
the death's final curtain
