One eager to burn,
smoulder away,
break into smithereens,
at the provocation slightest
Other shining brilliant
standing extremes of heat
and earths of pressure
not giving in to temptation any
Children of the same fold,
borne of the same element
that fills the planet
and each life on it
From plants to plankton,
man to mountain,
Even the machines man-made
leave carbon footprint.
Yet only a rare few
that don't break
and persevere through
all adversities, all trying
Get to become the elegance,
the distinctive diamond
and shine past
their origins humble.
While the rest wither away
with embers of envy
and smoulder along
like coal nondescript
Leaving behind only the soot
that all wish to wash
their hands off
soon upon touching.
All along vying
for the diamonds
to ornate their lives
with its hard-earned shine.
The only thing the man
can vie yet not make
of his own accord
and has to wait.
Wait for the nature to churn it
after eons of gestating.
A diamond is not just a wonder
but nature's way of teaching
lessons in patience.
To wait, wait and wait,
to shine at once.
Past all the cutting, past the roots
that everyone comes whence.
To become a diamond
that all wish to be around
Or just burn away
into smoke and soot.
The choice is for each to make
each day, each adversity,
each temptation to give up
one/ you/ we may face/ may we/you/one face.
