Striding ahead of me
slinking behind at times
Crawling coy some hesitant eves
disappearing without a trace most nights
Sharing the silhouette of my fears
and the shape of my dreams
Bearing witness to my path and longings
Singularly me yet unlike anything I could ever be
I, aiming for the stars and dreaming of the skies
she, preferring to stay grounded always
Conjoined at feet and joined in fate
growing together along life's trail
I can be taller than my limiting desires
and stay unhurt upon someone walking over me
Resolved of purpose and poised in premise
yet fluid enough to climb over intimidating adversities
Are just some of the things I learn from thee
oh dear shadow of mine,
I have lots to catch up before I call myself
a true shadow of thee.
