Defying all defining
refusing to be framed.
Pale, vivid,
fickle, strong-willed.
Poised, hesitant,
certain, confused.
Trying to figure
the ways of the world.
Her own and of the beloved.
A poem that is at once
accessible and misunderstood.
The cogs, the wheel
and the cart itself
yoked to her being
she keeps leaping
new horizons each day.
To aim for anything
more or less
amounts to crime
against womanliness.
An unpardonable avarice.
A woman.
Completed by her man.
By her children.
When not one of them would find
life worth living
Without her putting them each
before her dreams.
